WHAT IS EARLY VOTING?

Early voting is a way for you to vote before Election Day, at your own convenience. You can vote early in-person or by mail.

PLEASE NOTE

  • You can’t vote in person if your ballot has been accepted by your local election office. 
  • You can’t take your ballot back or vote again.
  • If you miss the early voting period, you can still vote on election day. 

WHERE TO VOTE

Unlike traditional polling, you don’t vote at your assigned polling location. Early voting for 2022 will be located at:

2022 MAIL-IN VOTING

In 2022, Vote by Mail applications will be mailed in September to every voter who hasn’t already requested a mail-in ballot for the November election. These applications will be pre-addressed and postage pre-paid.

HOW TO APPLY TO VOTE-BY-MAIL:

  1. Online: Mail-in Ballot Application System 
  2. By Mail: Applications will be mailed to every voter who hasn’t already requested a mail-in ballot for the fall elections by mail in July and September.
    • If you did not receive your mail application and need an application mailed to you, you may contact the Elections Division at 1-800-462-VOTE (8683) or elections@sec.state.ma.us or download a copy to print or email. Return the completed application using one of the following methods:
      • Email: voting@northamptonma.gov (Applications signed with a mouse, stylus, or finger are acceptable; typed signatures are not.)
      • Mail: Northampton City Clerk
        210 Main St., Room 4
        Northampton, MA 01060
      • In-Person to City Hall Drop box (labeled GREY box below City Hall front steps) or the City Clerk's Office service window inside the building.

Your ballot will arrive by mail. Ballots will be ready for mailing approximately 2-3 weeks before the election. Follow all instructions included with your ballot.

APPLICATION DEADLINE for the November 8, 2022 State Election: 5 p.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2022

How to Return your Ballot:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Ballots cannot be dropped off at a polling place on Election Day.

  2. In-Person to City Hall Drop box (labeled GREY box below City Hall front steps) or the City Clerk's Office service window inside the building. Our drop box is open Monday-Friday 8:45am-4:15 pm during Election seasons ONLY. DropBox
BALLOT RETURN DEADLINE for the November 8, 2022 State Election: 8 p.m. on Election Day for in-person drop box delivery. Ballots returned by mail from inside the United States must reach your local election office by 5 p.m. on November 11, 2022 in order to be counted. Mailed ballots received after 8 p.m. on Election Day can only be counted if they are postmarked by Election Day.

For all other elections, ballots must reach your local election office by the close of polls on Election Day in order to be counted.
