The Bicycle & Pedestrian Subcommittee advises the Transportation and Parking Commission and the Office of Planning & Sustainability on policy issues relating to improving bicycle and pedestrian facilities and safety. Meetings are on the 4th Wednesdays at 10 AM (Except for February 25, 2026 at 11:30am).
It focuses on policy and priority setting, not on specific roadway projects. It's work includes serving as a sounding board for:
Sustainable Northampton Comprehensive Plan's Walk/Bike Northampton element
Sustainable Northampton's Open Space, Recreation, and Multi-use Trail element
The City's shared trail design and projects
ValleyBike share expansion within the city
MassDOT and MassWorks funded complete street projects
Regulatory changes that effect bicycle and pedestrian safety
