Fair Housing

The City offers various programs to ensure affordable and fair housing. In 2019, PVPC conducted an analysis titled "Unlocking Opportunity: An Assessment of Barriers to Fair Housing in Northampton" identifying 38 short- and long-term action steps for stakeholders to address fair housing issues. Northampton residents interested in addressing these issues are encouraged to attend Northampton Housing Partnership meetings held on the first Monday of each month.

Legal Resources

  • Massachusetts Legal Help provides support for housing-related issues such as foreclosure, eviction, and homelessness, offering resources on tenants' rights, housing discrimination, and move-in checklists.
  • Community Legal Aid offers free civil legal services to low-income and elderly residents in Central and Western Massachusetts.
  • The Mass Fair Housing Center, the oldest fair housing center in Massachusetts, provides free legal services and accepts housing discrimination complaints from protected classes.
