Artist of the Month:

Rebecca Aronson

Showcasing from April 1 to May 31

What medium(s) do you use for your art?

I work primarily in watercolor, gouache, and pastel. In the past year, I’ve also begun using my paintings as source material for collage, cutting and reassembling them to let the work evolve in new ways.

What is your background?

Art has always been part of my life. My mother was a steel sculptor and painter, and I grew up in her studio—helping, observing, and learning through hands-on experience. From an early age, I was surrounded by the materials, processes, and rhythms of making, which shaped how I understand creativity as something lived and practiced over time.

How long have you been doing this type of art?

I’ve been painting since high school, first through my experiences in the studio and later through exploring my own interests more independently. Over the past seven years, my painting practice has become more focused. Joining Amherst Plein Air deepened my relationship to landscape, and more recently, working with collage has opened up a new visual language of shape and design. Lindsey Fogg-Willits has been an important mentor in this evolution.

What inspires you and how do you get started?

Nature, light, and color are my primary inspirations. I often begin with a mood or feeling rather than a specific place. Landscape frequently serves as a starting point, even as the work moves toward abstraction.

Is there anything else you would like people who view your art to know?

I hope viewers feel invited into the work—to experience abstraction intuitively, free of the expectation of clarity.

Is any of your art for sale? What is the best way for people to get in touch with you?

Yes, all work is for sale. I can be reached by text at 610-662-1787 or by email at aronsonrj@gmail.com.
