Artist of the Month: Christopher Gilbert
Showcasing from March 2nd to April 30th
What medium(s) do you use for your art?
Aside from sculpture, pretty much anything I can get my hands on, water color, oils, pastels, collage, graphite, charcoal, Dry Erase Markers on Dry Erase Sheets........ I am a half decent photographer....... I like to mix mediums when appropriate.
What is your background?
I have done many, many jobs. Artistically, I was supremely lucky enough to study with Stanley Lewis and others at Smith College, and I am forever indebted to Budge Hyde and the extraordinary crew at GCC’s art department(s). Top shelf stuff, all.
How long have you been doing this type of art?
About ten years. Everything had to be changed due to my back maladies. I did/do not have the physical capabilities for standard artistic procedures, thus I had to come up with inventive ways to draw smoothly, and quickly, very workable, ripe for creative ideas, for pattern/composition, etc., so as to be able to do so lying down.
What inspires you and how do you get started?
Lately, what gets me pushing is motivationally, I want to spread the word on what an interesting, unique, useful, method – doing fine art with Dry Erase sheets/boards is.
Is any of your art for sale? What is the best way for people to get in touch with you?
If someone is wanting a piece very strongly - contact info for me is cjmgilbert@gmail.com.
